Frequently Asked Questions

What training methods do you use?
I use force-free, reward-based, positive reinforcement training methods that focus on your dog’s emotional wellbeing. This means we work with your dog, not against them, to build lasting, positive behaviour.

How long are the sessions?
Sessions last up to one hour. Initial consultations may occasionally run slightly longer. I always prioritise your dog’s wellbeing, so if they become tired or overwhelmed, we may finish a little earlier.

How many sessions will I need?
Every dog is different, so it depends on your goals and your dog’s individual needs. Some people see progress in just the initial session, while others benefit from ongoing support. After your first session, we can decide together whether follow-up support would be helpful - there’s no pressure, just honest recommendations based on your goals and budget.

What if my dog is reactive or has behavioural issues?
You’re not alone - many of the dogs I work with need extra support. We’ll go at your dog’s pace and focus on helping them feel more comfortable and confident.

I also have experience working with rescue dogs and supporting their rehabilitation, so I understand the additional challenges this can bring.

If your dog would benefit from more specialist behaviour support, I’ll always point you in the right direction.

Do you work with restricted (‘banned’) breeds?
Yes - I can work with legally exempt restricted breeds, and I’m fully insured to do so.

There are a few legal requirements that need to be in place, including proof of exemption and valid third-party liability insurance. When working in public, dogs must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle in line with legal requirements.

If you’re unsure about any of this, feel free to get in touch and I can guide you.

Can I reschedule or cancel my session?

I completely understand that life happens. If you need to rearrange your session, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance and I’ll be happy to reschedule.

Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, may be forfeited.

What happens if my dog is unwell or not fully vaccinated yet?
For everyone’s safety, please do not bring your dog if they are unwell or showing signs of illness. Sessions can always be rescheduled if needed.

Puppies should be vaccinated in line with veterinary guidance for their age.

Do I need to avoid feeding my dog before the session?
Please ensure your dog hasn’t eaten a meal within the hour before the session to help prevent discomfort or injury during training.

What equipment do I need for training?
Unless we’ve discussed otherwise, I’ll guide you on the most suitable equipment to keep training clear, safe, and consistent.

Can family members join the session?
Yes - family members are very welcome to join. It’s often helpful when everyone involved with the dog can learn together and stay consistent.

And don’t worry if things feel a bit chaotic at first - that’s completely normal and gives me helpful insight into what’s going on.

What happens in a training session?
All training is delivered through personalised 1-2-1 sessions tailored to you and your dog.

Sessions take place in your home and local area, and may include quiet outdoor spaces where appropriate, working wherever you and your dog feel most comfortable.

We’ll start by discussing your dog’s history, current challenges, and your goals. I’ll observe your dog’s behaviour, begin training straight away, and provide clear, practical guidance you can start using immediately.

You’ll leave feeling reassured and confident about what to do next.

My standard initial session is £80.

Why don’t you offer group classes?
Not every dog, or human, thrives in a group setting - and that’s okay.

1-2-1 training allows us to work at your dog’s pace, in the environments that actually matter, such as your home and everyday walks.

Whether you’ve got a rescue dog, a nervous dog, or you simply want more personalised support, I’m here to help.

Why don’t you just train the dog without their human present?
Dog training isn’t just about the dog - it’s about supporting the person too.

If a dog only responds to a trainer, the results won’t carry over into real life.

That’s why I work 1-2-1 with both you and your dog, so you can understand their behaviour, build clear communication, and feel confident in everyday situations.

Every dog and household is different - your training should reflect that.
